Privacy policy
Iris has no accounts, no servers of its own and no analytics. Here is exactly what happens with your data.
In short
We don't collect, see or sell your data. Iris runs on your iPhone and talks directly to OpenAI with your own API key, and to Apple and Meta services your iPhone already uses.
What stays on your iPhone
Your settings, the text history of your conversations (optional), things you asked Iris to remember and your usage statistics are stored only on your iPhone. Your OpenAI API key is stored in the iPhone Keychain. You can delete everything in Settings; deleting the app removes it too.
What is sent to OpenAI
While a conversation you started is active, Iris sends to OpenAI: the audio of your speech, questions you type, a photo from the glasses camera when you ask a visual question, and the results of actions such as a web search or your approximate address when you ask about places. This goes directly from your iPhone to OpenAI under your own API account and is governed by OpenAI's terms and privacy policy. According to OpenAI, data sent through the API is not used to train its models by default.
Wake phrase
If you use a wake phrase, your iPhone recognizes it on the device with Apple's speech recognition. Nothing is sent to the cloud before you address Iris, except the last three seconds of audio so your first words aren't lost.
Location, calendar, reminders and photos
These are used only when you ask for them and only if you allowed them. Place searches and directions use Apple Maps. Reminders are local notifications, events are added to your own calendar and photos are saved to your own library. You can turn each ability off in Settings.
Meta glasses
Iris connects to the glasses camera through Meta's Wearables Device Access Toolkit, with its analytics and crash reporting turned off. Audio uses the standard Bluetooth headset connection.
No tracking
Iris contains no advertising, no tracking and no third-party analytics. This website uses no cookies and no tracking scripts.
Children
Iris is not intended for children under 16.
Your rights
Because we don't hold your personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. For data processed by OpenAI under your API account, contact OpenAI. We're happy to answer any question about this policy.
